This 2007 Mt Harlan Chardonnay is so alluring, bright and cheerful! Aromas of pineapple guava, apricot, white pepper, nutmeg and honeysuckle lead you into a splendid litany of flavors: peach nectar, lychee, musky mango, passion fruit, faint vanilla bean and hints of French oak. The texture is plush, creamy and round with the signature accent of Mt. Harlan minerality.

This 2007 Central Coast Chardonnay offers generous aromas of ripe pineapple, honeysuckle, apple and succulent lime zest. At first, the taste is reminiscent of vanilla custard and lemon chiffon, at the same time possessing a soft, fun citrus zing. It continues on with a bit of brioche, a touch of toasty oak and a full, round texture, then finishes with a silky, delicious finish.

Calera’s 2007 Mt. Harlan Viognier is amazingly alluring, silky and distinctly white peach in both aroma and flavor. Honeysuckle, also very prevalent, is accented by a wonderful floral bouquet, succulent nectarine flavors and typical mineral undertones so notable in Mt Harlan wines. This delicately powerful Viognier will hold its own with boldly flavored cuisine but is mighty nice to simply sip on its own.

Mt. Harlan Cuvée is a barrel selection from our various single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and reflects a fascinating complement of personalities from each. This wine is fresh with delicious Pinot Noir fruitiness, and appealing aromatic notes of dark cherry, plum and spiced tea. It is a multi-dimensional wine, very approachable, supple and smooth on the palate, while at the same time showing surprising complexity and structure. The wine's excellent balance allows it to be enjoyed young, while its core of fine tannin will allow it to develop gracefully for several years.

2005 Selleck vineyard Pinot Noir expresses a lush, milky bouquet of raspberry cream, cola and blackberry. The texture is alluringly smooth, showing remarkable balance, while still showing deep structure. Flavors of cherry cola, soft toast, flinty mineral, a bit of citronella and fresh hay intermingle with the deep tarry, berry hints that will emerge further with time. This wine is definitely a candidate for the cellar.

This 2005 Reed Vineyard Pinot Noir is heavily perfumed with cola, cedar, black pepper, wet stone and herbal spice. It possesses a fascinating compilation of flavors; boysenberry, smoked bacon, pine, mineral, chili pepper and accented with tarry, deep spice and sweet earth. While still tightly wound, the texture is smooth, but asks for a bit of breathing to flesh out for near term enjoyment.

This is the second release of our tiny experiment with Aligoté, the “other” white grape of Burgundy. In 2004 we grafted 165 of our oldest vines, just a quarter-acre, to this fun variety that is virtually unknown in the U.S. The 2006 is leaner in structure, higher in natural acidity and lower in alcohol than our Chardonnays, with delicate citrus fruit aromas and a crisp clean structure. Check it out!
